72: The Church Expands

Merlin Miller continues the study of the book of Acts with this 72nd message taken from Acts 28:16-31.  This is the final text of the Acts of the Apostles, an open end to Paul’s captivity in Rome.  But Paul continues to do what he always does: share the Gospel, first with the Jews and then with everyone.

God has promised that they will all survive - will His word be borne out? What kind of faith and trust in His promise is required to arrive safely?

What do you do when that person then moves the case to your superior? How will you explain yourself? Festus finds himself in this position and King Agrippa comes to visit, so he hopes to take advantage of his counsel.

Felix has heard both sides of the case, yet delays making any judgment despite demonstrating his awareness of Paul’s innocence. Does Paul complain, or take advantage of the opportunity? The tribune, still uncertain as to the charge against Paul, gets no closer to what he wants to know as the council is thrown into an uproar by another statement made by Paul. As men make their plans and rage against Paul, what is God’s response?

Merlin Miller continues the study of the Book of Acts with the 60th message taken from Acts 22:22-23:5.  As Paul tells his story the crowd has been silent, up until he comes to a certain point.  Suddenly the crowd erupts again, and the Roman tribune is left to use every means possible to determine just what Paul is guilty of!

The Roman guard rescues Paul from a crowd intent on killing him, but instead of hiding Paul stops the tribune and asks to speak to the crowd. What could he possibly want to tell them? The answer is: his story!

This begins the final section of the book, where the sovereignty of God is once again on display as He expands the reach of the church through ways that most of us would consider just the opposite, including the arrest of Paul.

Merlin Miller continues his sermon series from the book of Acts, this 53rd message is taken for Acts 19:21-40.  Paul intends to leave Ephesus to continue strengthening other churches, but before he does there is a riot due to the successful power of the Gospel to change the culture of people.

51: The Church Strengthened

Merlin Miller preaches the 51st sermon from Acts, taken from Acts 19:1-10. Apollos, fully converted, leaves for Corinth but now Paul arrives at Ephesus and does as he always does: immediately begins to powerfully proclaim Jesus. We see new converts, fuller understanding by existing believers, and a powerful demonstration of God’s sovereignty and faithfulness.

50: The Church Strengthened

Merlin Miller returns to the study of book of Acts with the 50th message, taken from chapter 18:23-28. Having returned to where he was sent from, Paul does not stay long but makes another route through existing churches to strengthen them. Almost immediately the attention turns to Ephesus, where the conversion of Apollos will have lasting effects on the church.

47: The Church Expands

Merlin Miller preaches the 47th message from the book of Acts, from Acts 17:22-34. Paul has a chance to speak in the highest court in Athens and he takes full advantage, attempting to reveal to them a God they have as of yet not known, and the way to Him, namely Jesus. What will the results be?
